The Southeast Louisiana Health Care System offers a variety of programs that are responsive to the particular needs of LGBT Veterans and staff.
We hope you choose SLVHCS and join our growing team of Veterans and staff to create an LGBT Veteran community and health care system. LGBT Veterans are invited to participate in an LGBT Veteran Support Group to meet other LGBT Veterans and enjoy a supportive environment to give and receive support from peers. Our Patient Rights and Responsibilities or our non-discrimination policy specifically prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
VA Transgender and Intersex Directive
This directive provides information on VA policies regarding respectful health care for transgender and intersex Veterans.
We recognize that diverse populations have distinctive needs and are training our staff in culturally and clinically competent care for LGBT Veterans. We are focused on providing the most respectful health care environment possible.
LGBT Veteran Support Group

Individual therapy is available with mental health clinicians familiar with LGBT issues. Request a referral through your primary care provider.
For Veterans who are questioning their gender identity or whose gender identity or expression differs from their assigned gender at birth, we offer• Cross-Sex Hormone Therapy (CSHT) and Individual Psychotherapy. To initiate services related to gender identity, ask your primary care provider to enter an e-consultation or walk-in and request an appointment for transgender services.

The LGBT Pride Parade is an annual event in June celebrating our LGBT Veterans and staff. Past events have included participation in local Pride parades, military and patient service from an LGBT perspective and participation in community career fairs.
