At VA, we work every day to make accessing health care as convenient as possible for Veterans. Many of our services can be accessed online or by phone. When it comes to refilling a prescription, we’ve made it easy to be sure you never run out of a needed medication.

Did you know you can order prescription refills by phone? It’s easy. Just dial the medical center at 1-800-935-8387 and press 1 for pharmacy. Follow the prompts to order a prescription refill. You’ll need the prescription number, which can be found on the prescription slip or on the bottle the medication came in. If you don’t have any refills left on your prescription, you can still request your medication by phone. The request will be sent to your health care team. Once your order is placed, it will be processed and mailed to your address of record. Prescriptions normally arrive within 10 business days.

Refills can also be ordered online through My HealtheVet. Once you’re logged in, you can view your VA prescriptions and refills remaining. Check the prescriptions you’d like to refill and submit your order. That’s it! The prescriptions will be mailed to you once the order is processed. You can log on to My HealtheVet to track the prescription shipment as it makes its way to you. In order to use My HealtheVet for prescription ordering and tracking, you must have completed in-person authentication of your My HealtheVet account. For more information or to sign up, go do www.myhealth.va.gov.

A third option for requesting a medication refill is by mail. Just send the refill slips that came with your prescription to:

2400 Canal Street
Outpatient Pharmacy 2J305
New Orleans, LA 70119

However you choose to refill your prescriptions, it’s important to know what not to do. Please remember that the Emergency Department is NOT the place to have your prescription refilled. Routine refills are delivered by mail.

One last tip to make sure you always have your meds when you need them: when you get a refill, order the next one. It will be sent out at the appropriate time, so you’ll have it when it’s needed.
