The Southeast Louisiana Health Care System offers a variety of programs that are responsive to the particular needs of LGBTQA Veterans and staff.
We hope you choose SLVHCS and join our growing team of Veterans and staff to create an LGBTQA Veteran community and health care system. LGBTQA Veterans are invited to participate in an LGBTQA Veteran Support Group to meet other LGBTQA Veterans and enjoy a supportive environment to give and receive support from peers. This directive provides information on VA policies regarding respectful health care for transgender and intersex Veterans.
Services
We recognize that diverse populations have distinctive needs and are training our staff in culturally and clinically competent care for LGBTQA Veterans. We are focused on providing the most respectful health care environment possible.
LGBTQA Services
LGBTQA Veteran Support Group
Group therapy provided by peer support specialist and clinical social workers. Open to all LGBTQA Veterans at SLVHCS.The point of contact is our Outpatient Mental Health Social Work Manager Danielle Rosenfeld, at (800) 935-8387 ext. 65155.
Individual Counseling
Individual therapy is available with mental health clinicians familiar with LGBTQA issues. Request a referral through your primary care provider.
Transgender Services
For Veterans who are questioning their gender identity or whose gender identity or expression differs from their assigned gender at birth, we offer Cross-Sex Hormone Therapy (CSHT) and Individual Psychotherapy. To initiate services related to gender identity, ask your primary care provider to enter an e-consultation or walk-in and request an appointment for transgender services.

Events
The LGBTQA Pride Parade is an annual event in June celebrating our LGBTQA Veterans and staff. Past events have included participation in local Pride parades, military and patient service from a LGBTQA perspective and participation in community career fairs. Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual event in November memorializing those who have been killed because they were transgender.
